Structure:
Our campaign is made of a combination of affinity groups and working groups. Affinity groups are small groups of close friends and trusting comrades who have a commitment to taking or supporting direct action together. Affinity groups can plan actions together and take part in No Coal No Gas events. We also have working groups: behind the scenes project teams that work across the campaign to plan and assess strategy, assist with internal and external communications, monitor structure and feedback, and support onboarding and affinity group work.
We hold regular Campaign All-Calls where everyone in our network is invited to come together, share and celebrate what we’ve been working on, and build community. We share ideas and build for future actions and strategy. You can register for the next mass call on our events page.
We have a group of campaign coordinators that meet on a weekly basis to make sure the various pieces of this campaign are moving forward and working together. Leif is one of the coordinators who works to help with communication across the campaign. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to email them and they will help you get plugged in! Our Campaign Goals:
1. Build unity and community
We know that it is a network of relationships that make resistance possible, and that community relationships will be increasingly necessary to collective survival as the climate crisis unfolds. We are dedicated to building a strong community of climate dissidents, bonded by love and trust, who have each other’s backs in this risky work.
2. Show what is possible
All too often, conversations around climate action are constrained by the concept of “political feasibility,” instead of being guided by moral necessity. As the crisis unfolds, we know that governments and corporations are not here to save us, and that those in power are consistently enacting worldwide injustice. In response, we commit to taking moral action to do what must be done to resist fossil fuels. We hope to show that collective resistance and a Just Transition are both necessary and possible.
3. Shut Down All Fossil Fuel Peaker Plants In New England
Peaker plants are facilities that only run occasionally, at peak times - meaning the hottest summer days and coldest winter ones, when the region is using its highest amount of energy. Shutting down these peaker plants and reducing our peak load overall will free up ratepayer dollars to hasten a clean energy transition.
